About the Book The present book, Western Philosophy of Education, consists of thirteen chapters and studies all the essential educational philosophies of Plato, Aristotle, Comenius, Rousseau, Pestalozzi, Froebel, Herbart, Russell, Dewey, Montessori, Spencer, Loyola and Locke. The book will certainly meet the requirements of the undergraduate and postgraduate students.
About the Author Dr. G.R. Sharma, born in 1947 at Khongman Manzil, Imphal, Manipur (India), holds M.A. degree in Philosophy from the Centre of Advanced Study in Philosophy, Visva- Bharati University, Santiniketan (India) and Ph.D. and D.Litt. degrees from Meerut University and Ranchi University respectively. He is a fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland. He is life member of many academic and cultural organizations including Indian Philosophical Congress, Akhil Bharatiya Darshan Parishad and Manipur Sahitya Parishad. At present, he is Reader and Head of Department of Philosophy, Manipur College, Imphal. He has published a number of papers and participated in several State, National and International Conferences and Seminars. He is the author of The Idealistic Philosophy of Swami Vivekananda, Kang-Khong Chairaba Punshi, Trends in Contemporary Indian Philosophy of Education, An Introduction to Gandhian Thought and The Mother's Philosophy of Education.
Preface The present book, Western Philosophy of Education, has been particularly designed to study all the essentials of Western philosophy of education in brief and precise format. It seeks to serve the needs of the undergraduate and postgraduate students as an ideal textbook and a reference book for teachers.
There is a plethora of books on the "Western Philosophy of Education" but these can hardly meet the requirements of the students. Thus, an attempt has been made to make this work an ideal textbook on the subject.
