Book Description
I was distressed to find whither India was going. I had contributed my humble mite to the freedom struggle. We had dreamt many a rosy dream about independent India in those days. And today, the sickening poverty amidst plenty, the growing inequalities, the indifference of the elite about our weaker brethren, the atrocities of the police, the growing corruption, the utter selfishness of most of our leaders, the waywardness of our youth, the growing curbs on civil liberties, politics without principles, and above all the erosion of moral values in ail walks of life that is engulfing this largest democracy on the globe—is it for this freedom for which patriots sacrificed and suffered smilingly.
I have analysed the reasons for this debacle and have thrown light on the way out. I have written this book keeping before me an average literate compatriot. If it provokes wide discussion and sets people to act, my labours will be amply rewarded.
Sarva Seva Sangh Prakashan published this original book in Hindi in 1981. Now it is in its second edition. Meanwhile its Gujarati and Marathi translations are published and Kannada edition is in press. Its English translation, considerably revised and brought up to-date, is being published now as many non-Hindi people were demanding it. Prof. P. Vidyapati Shastri, G. S. College of Commerce, Wardha and Prof: M. L. Mohagaonkar, J. B. College of Science, Wardha, have corrected the manuscript for which I am grateful. Suggestions for improvement are most welcome.
