Book Description

Preface

I have written seven books on Astrology, Numerology and Palmistry. One book on Yoga Asanas in Tamil. This is my ninth book. One should be eligible to write a book on Yoga Asanas. My humble opinion is that I am a fit person to write on this subject since by the grace of Shri Umapathy, I have passed 80 years.

I have been doing Yoga Asanas till last year. Last year I had an electric shock under ,unforeseen circumstance and fell on my back on some utensil, which . was on the ground. The result is that my backbone has been affected. I have been forced to give up certain Asanas. I feel sorry that I am not able to place before you my own photos for the various Asanas.

Some fifty years back, the general opinion was that Asanas are necessary for those who renounced the world and took sanyas path of life. I remember that some magazine published articles on Yoga Asanas. The importance Yoga Asanas has been felt, as the time rolled on and now Yoga Asanas are very popular.

I learnt Yoga Asanas in the ash ram of my Gurudev Shri Swami Sivananda Of Rishikesh through his disciple Swami Visweshwar. I was a boy of eighteen then. I have described important Asanas to the best of my ability.

I am thankful to Shri Siva Subramaniam for giving the drawings for the Asanas. I am also indebeted to late Shri Janakiraman, Proprietor, Balaji Publications for his kindness and for the encouragement he had extended to me to become a writer. His son-in-law Shri Viswanathan is managing the Publication on the same lines and encouraged me to write on this subject. I am thankful to him also.

Please read the book carefully. Grasp the procedure well in the mind. Perform the asanas step by step slowly. There should never be haste or roughness in practicing Asanas. I pray Shri Umapathy Shankar to shower good health for all.
