About the Author
There are a number of books in English and Indian languages on ancient India but there is something unique about this book. The learned author due to his knowledge of Sanskrit and study of Vedic and Pauranic texts in original has given a comprehensive narration and analysis of ancient Indian concept of administration, justice, education, finance, faith, republicans and monarchies, their standard and culture, art, literature, social customs, ancient Indian penology, criminology, law and order, organization of police force, inherent unity in thought and culture from Vedic period till date and the science of astrology, mathematics, astronomy. This book has been further enriched by detailed description of the system of village councils, panchayat raj, local self government and democracy always at the base of monarchies also. Due to his knowledge of Pali the author has drawn a good deal from inscriptions and engraved proclamations. To him ancient India covers the period upto 1100-1200 A. D. from Vedic period but factually upto the end of the rule of Harsh Vardhan (606-647).

About the Author
Paripurnanand Varma is a versatile writer covering a large field of English and Hindi literature, novelist dramatist, biographist and a writer on subjects like philosophy and symbols. He is a criminologist of international repute, honoured by an honoris causa by a foreign country and highest eminence in Hindi, 'Sahitya Vachaspati' (D. Litt). He is a facile writer in English and Hindi both and a good number of his work, especially on Criminology- Penology have been published and honoured.
As an administrator in U. P. Govt. or Chairman of a good number of national and State Commissions, on various subjects like police, prison, finance etc. and as a legislator, he has always made a mark. In the field of criminology he was the first vice president of the last UNO Congress on Crime Prevention at Geneva. His thesis on Consanguineous Marriage and Anthropological Aspect of Criminology have been translated in Spanish and French and a recent one on language in Italian.
Born in February, 1907 even at the age of 87, he is continuing his literary pursuits. He started his career after post- graduation as a lecturer in Economics and then a journalist and editor of reputed journals; his last vocation was Executive Vice president of U. P. Govt's apex body for Hindi, Hindi Sansthan. President (founder) of the All India Crime Prevention Society, for full 50 years he is now its patron. He continues as a freelance writer in English and Hindi, both.
