Book Description

About The Book

'Beyond Me' is an autobiography with a difference in technique, style and substance too. Confession constitutes the essence, the author begins, besides 'Introduction' with his village as an abode for human association, his home, a symbol of togetherness on earth as central to existence and his childhood in the back-drop of village rusticity to end up in his school for an on-ward journey to Muslim University in Aligarh.
He studied Persian for two years and did LL.B, too at the seat of learning in Aligarh. His practicing law in a local court at Sopore for a little while was followed by his choicest profession 'teaching' in different colleges, which has graphically been described in 'Beyond Me'. Where does he end up? May be somewhere not in wilderness but figure somewhere in politics as one who does not choose to meekly submit to perks.

About the Author

Born to illiterate parents, Professor Abdul Ghani Butt was destined to teach Persian in different colleges of Kashmir and then surprisingly to revive and lead a dysfunctional political organization Muslim Conference, launched as far back as 1931 in Kashmir as well. 'Mysterious indeed are the paths to destiny - the professor was dismissed in the year 1986 on a ground that he constituted a threat to state's security - a charge as flimsy as it was un-palatable. Consequent upon his dismissal an employee's organization, Muslim Employees Front sprang to fight arbitrary dismissals, apprehensively befogging 'tomorrow' of the Muslim employees in Kashmir. Something could originate in the matrix of M.E.F., no pandith hazarded a guess and yet the something happened. Muslim United Front a political forum was born to launch a political movement against excesses in Kashmir. The change gave the professor a pivotal role to play in the 'Forum' and as a consequence was jailed in Heranagar along with many others for exactly nine months. His release heralded the revival of Muslim Conference in the month of December 1988 and he was deservedly chosen as the President of the party. To add to it, Muslim Conference was, a little latter recognized as one of the other seven parties to form yet another forum - the 'All Parties Hurriyat Conference' which Professor Abdul Ghani Butt had the distinction to lead as its chairman for two plus one-three years in all. 'Given time he may end up gracefully.
