Book Description

Introduction
The Vrindaban Research Institute has acquired about 25,000 manuscripts, a host of archival material and important historical documents of Braj region, since its inception in 1968. The Braj has been a cradle of innumerable religious, cultural, social and historical events in the post- medieval period. The bulk of the manuscripts collected by the Institute represents the works and collections of the various Vaishnava sects (and scholars) who made the Braj area around Vrindaban the centre of their activities. The Institute with its very modest outlay has thus achieved its twofold objective of (i) preservation of the cultural heritage of Vaishnavism and (ii) diffusion of knowledge about the post-medieval Indian society and culture.

With the generous help of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, the Institute has already published four parts of the Catalogue of Sanskrit Manuscripts, in the years 1976, 1978, 1981 and 1985 respectively.

The fifth part of the catalogue of Sanskrit Manuscripts conforms to a statutory layout adopted in the fourth part. To the 13,330 manuscripts listed in parts 1-IV, 3500 have been added in this volume and thus the total serial number has come up to 16,830.
