About the Author Dr. S. Chidmbara Thanu Pillai born in 1934 belongs to a family of Siddha Medical Practitioners for 46 generations in Eranien, Kanyakumari District. He has made yeras of research on Siddha Medical Literature, and produced about 60 books on Siddha Medicine in English and Tamil.

Further he has been doing extensive research on ancient palm leaves, left by his fore-fathers and has written more than 40 books n Thanuology (Varmam) in both Tamil and English.

Preface This treatise on Varmam has its origin in Tamil Nadu. It is in the form of verses in Tamil. It is translated into English so that it can be useful to English-knowing people.

Varma Medical system, which is age-old has been known to some families in Kanyakumari District, and deals with impact diseases. These dis eases arise in the nerves of the human beings when affected by impact. In the human physique there are 72, 000 nerves present from head to feet. It is the channel for prana vayu. Thousands of ailments are caused by impacts to men, women, and children. This medical science is dealt with in hundreds of ancient treatises.
