Book Description

About The Book

This book attempts to present a systematic analysis of the passages that deals with the nature and work of God in the Synoptic Gospels particularly focusing on the fatherhood of God in the Gospel of Matthew. In doing so the author has brought out the uniqueness and subtleties of the interwovenness of God theme in the narratives of the Gospels.

The scholarly work is carried out by making use of the redaction criticism as the main tool, giving priority to the context of the Evangelists examining the life-situations and theological emphasis. Thereby the work also does justice to the comparative dimension between the Gospels and has presented quite comprehensively the working of God concept in Mark and Luke.

It has also made effort to re- conceptualize the theology of God in Indian religions and theology with particular emphasis on Ao-tribal religions in Nagaland. Though the theme seems to be conventional yet it certainly makes a vital contribution to fresh understanding of the Synoptic Evangelists in the Indian situation. The author affirms that the theme of the fatherhood of God is so prominently projected in the Gospel of Matthew that it has important implications for the ongoing understanding of God in New Testament theology, and also for doing theology and engaging in God- talk in India.
