A work of unparalleled quality, this detailed study of Hindu society, penned about two centuries ago by a French Christian missionary, who left his country to avoid the turmoil of the famous French Revolution, Abbe Dubois' mega 'Hindu Manners, Customs and Ceremonies', of 850 pages, no wonder, has not only been the pioneer work on the hoary subject, but one which will never lose its value now also because, with radical changes in Hindu society, it provides a mirror of what they had really been; which the modern Hindus may find astonishing. Earlier, the book has been edited twice and published separately, we now do something more to enhance its utility. We have published its Religion part in a separate volume, and now present its sociological part rechapterised and condensed-which we hope will better serve its purpose. We feel everyone interested in the Hindu Social System including the Hindus themselves should go through this highly interesting book. It gives actual descriptions, witnessed by the author himself, of the glory burnings of the windows.
