Book Description

Preface

I am happy to place before the scholars fifty second issue of the Indian Archaeology 2004-05 — A Review which was press ready in Jan. 2013 but due to certain unavoidable reasons, the publication of the present issue has been much delayed. For that, I would like to apologize to the readers. The manuscript of the IAR 2005-06 will shortly be sent to the press.

As usual, this Review incorporates the materials submitted by various organisations engaged in archaeological activities in different fields of archaeology covering Explorations and Excavations; Epigraphy; Numismatic and Treasure Trove; Other Important Discoveries, Palaeobotanical and Pollen Analytical Investigations, Museums; Architectural Survey; Preservation of Monuments; Archaeological Chemistry; Archaeological Gardens and Publications. I am sure the readers will find in these pages useful material which has been contributed by different Branches and Circles of the ASI, State Departments, Universities and other Research Agencies. I am deeply beholden to all the contributors and colleagues whose efforts have helped in bringing out this issue.

Due to the diversity of the material incorporated herein and the vastness of the subject, the possibility of a few editorial inaccuracies cannot be ruled out, for them I must apologize. However, in regard to factual information and the interpretation of data, the responsibility rests with the contributors.

For the vast and painstaking work of sorting out, compiling data, editing, proof reading and making the copy press ready, I thank Dr. Arundhati Banerjee, the then S.A. and her team in the publication Section. I am also thankful to Dr. B.R. Mani, A.D.G. (Archaeology); Dr. R.S. Fonia, J.D.G.; Dr. D.N. Dimri, Director; Sh. Daljit Singh, S.A.; Dr. Piyush Bhatt, A.S.A.; Sh. Hoshiar Singh, P.O. and Sh. Abinash Mohanty, A.A. without their support this issue would not have seen the light of day.

Finally, I would like to thank M/s Chandu Press, Delhi for bringing out the book.
