Book Description

Foreword

A wealth of information about different aspects of Yoga has accumulated in the quarterly journal of "Yoga Mimamsa" starting from the year 1924. The Publication was meant to cover scientific research, semi scientific and popular articles to meet the needs of individuals with scientific and literary backgrounds interested in the know-ledge about Yoga. This valuable information was getting out of the reach of the interested individuals because of the availability of the journal only in limited number of libraries and also non-availability of the back volumes. The limitation of only part of the journal being of interest to an individual of particular background did not encourage him to invest in the total volume even if it could be made available by the publisher. This need has been aptly met by the present publication which gives the abstracts of the articles belonging to all the topics.

The Editor has made a laudable effort in categorising the abstracts according to the yogic practices or their applied relevance i.e. to education, treatment etc., thus presenting the subject matter at a glance. Each of these classified aspects of Yoga have been further compiled under the three sections of the "Yoga Mimamsa" to enable quick location of the material in which the reader be interested.

Even the books and monographs published by the Kaivalyadhama have been annoted. A further effort has been made in preparing the subject and author index.

Dr. M. V. Bhole’s long experience as Yoga practitioner, teacher, researcher and a medical scientists has enabled him to give a clear and concise arrangement to the information printed in "Yoga Mimamsa" from the year 1924 to 1984. He deserves a most profound gratitude of students and experts of Yoga for this meticulous work.

I am sure all those who are interested in Yoga find this compilation of tremendous use as a reliable the bookshelf of each library and student of yogic literature.

Preface

After founding Kaivalyadhama Ashrama in the year 1924, Swami Kuvalayananda started the quarterly journal, 'Yoga Mimamsa' to publish his research articles of scientific, semi-scientific and popular nature. Since 1930, the research work was continued by him and his colleagues in the scientific and philosophico-literary research departments of the Kaivalyadhama S.M.Y.M. Samiti and very valuable and useful research findings were presented through the pages of this journal.

Frequent demands from the research workers, yoga teachers and aspirants were instrumental for the release of subject-wise classified abstracts and bibliography of articles published in Yoga Mimamsa and elsewhere by the staff members of Kaivalyadhama in a cyclostyled form in 1983 for private use and circulation. Growing demands from the readers have encouraged us to prepare the second revised and updated edition of this work in a very short time and to publish the same in a printed form.

Blessings from Swami Digambarji, Chairman and Director of Research; Financial assurance from Shri O. P. Tiwari, Secretary and Jt. Director of Administration; wholehearted co-operation from all the staff members in preparing the MSS and painstaking willingness of M/s. Natraj Printers; Shri Avinash Limaye of Limaye Copiers and Shri Balasaheb Date of Kala-pratima, Pune to print the book in an elegant form made it possible to bring out the text on the occasion of the International Conference on Yoga and Research held at Lonavala from 28th to 30th December, 1984. However, Authorwise and Subjectwise indexing work took some time and the complete work could be made available now on the occasion of 38th Independence Day of India.

The Institute is grateful to Dr. G. S. Chhina Prof. and Head of the Deptt. of Physiology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi for kindly writing the foreward to this edition. He is an Internationally acclaimed scientist working in the field of yoga and is a member of various yoga committees of Govt. of India. The Editor is personally obliged to him.
