About the Book
A luminary of the Hindi literary world, Dharamvir Bharati wrote movels, poetry, short stories and in 1926 in Allahabad, he studied Hindi at Allahabad University and went on to teach there. The late 1940s and 1950s were among his most creative years when he wrote some of his finest works: Gunahon ka Devta, which became one of Hindi literature's biggest bestsellers; the highly acclaimed novel Suraj ka Satwan Shoda; a verse play Andha Yug, which has been performed by every major theatre group in the country; and the long lyrical poem JKanupriya. In 1960, he began editing Dharamyug, making it one of the leading literary Hindi journals of its time. He edited it for over three decades. He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1972 and later, with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. He died in 1997.

Poonam Saxena is a writer and journalist. She started her career by freelancing for leading newspapers and them became the features editor of the Asian Age. Later, she launched the Sunday magazine of the Hindustan Times, Brunch, and edited it for over ten years. She also wrote a long-running popular TV review column, Small Screen, for the newspaper. Currently she is the national weekend editor of the Hindustan Times.
