Book Description

About the Book

"Though 'greatness' is one, there is always a difference in woman's greatness and man's greatness. Though perfection is one yet perfect woman and perfect man will always be different. If 'great woman' or 'perfect woman' is deleted from the ideal of `greatness' or 'perfection' then this ideal of 'greatness' or `perfection' itself will suffer, it will get crippled. Great women and great men together constitute an ideal society and ideal family. Sita Devi and Sri Ramachandra, Sarada Devi and Sri Ramakrishna both are equally great, equally developed, and equally perfect; they are neither equal nor unequal. They are distinct, yet they are complementary and equally great."

Preface

In commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda we are happy to present to the readers this book entitled, "The Hindu Woman of Today and Tomorrow," translated into English. It was originally written in Marathi by Swami Shivatatvananda, published by Ramakrishna Math, Nagpur in the year 1968.

There are plenty of problems before the Hindu women of today. They have literally become desperate while facing them. Various kinds of mental tensions and conflicts have arisen in the lives of women who have opted for modern education. In order to support their families they have to take up jobs or do some other kind of work in different fields either with men or with women.

These women, who have come out of their houses, have to confront with many problems. Struggle with the external world and their own mental struggle - such is the dual nature of this confrontation. Thus, due to this struggle and internal suffering, the Hindu women of modern times are terribly baffled. This book deals with the detailed and lucid description of the problems and the means to set Hindu women free from their struggle and misery. It also throws light on the factors which are essential for moulding their personality, natural to womanhood and for giving it an ideal form.

The author exhorts that the teachings of holy books like Gita and Upanisads, as well as of incarnations and great souls should be imbibed and actually practised in life. At the same time whatever is constructive, progressive, good and useful in western culture in this modern age, should also be accepted for bringing about over all development amongst Hindu women in times to come. All this is very aptly and realistically explained in this book.

It is hoped that our Hindu Woman of today will definitely get proper guidance for bringing about real progress in her life in the true sense, from this book.

We extend our hearty thanks to Mr. Bhagbat Chakraborty of Meteor Books and Mr. Joydeep Sen of The Hallmark for efficient work of publishing and printing.
