Book Description

About the Book
Emergence and growth of women activists in reaction to socio-economic political patriarchal structure is a striking feature of the contemporary social reality. It is due to women activists and their activities that women's movement is a living reality which otherwise would have been an abstract concept. Although attempts have been made to understand women's movement, through their organisations, yet the study of activists, pivotal in understanding women's movement, has been neglected.

In the Book Indian Women Activists, the Author has endeavoured to provide a sociological analysis of activism concentrating mainly on social backgrounds, value orientations and activities of women activists pertaining to women's question.

The study is based on a survey conducted in the city of Delhi in the year 1990-91 by means of in-depth interviews as well as observations both participant and non-participant.

The Author has given suggestions for the State policy to raise women's status and for further research in this field.

This is a very useful book for the sociologists and those interested in the welfare of women.
