Book Description

About the Book
This short pamphlet by Henry Steel Olcott, first published in 1912 as a part of the series of Adyar Pamphlets, provides deep insights into the life of Mahatma Buddha and its lessons to the whole mankind. It enumerates the lessons to be derived from the life and teachings of the Buddha, including gratitude and benevolence, tolerance, the common tie of brotherhood among all men, self- reliance, equanimity, meanness of the rewards, the pettiness of the misfortunes, self-purification and communion, and the necessity for avoiding every species of evil thought and word, and speaking and thinking everything that is good.

About the Author
Colonel Henry Steel Olcott was an American military officer, and the co- founder and first President of the Theosophical Society. He was the first well-known American of European ancestry to make a formal conversion to Buddhism. His subsequent actions as president of the Theosophical Society helped create a renaissance in the study of Buddhism.
