Book Description
Though meagre in his output, vastly influential was Poet Gurazada Venkata Appa Rao (1862-1915). He was a trendsetter in three genres of Telugu literature-poetry, drama and short-story. Spending most of his lifetime with princes in their palaces, he dreamed of a future society in which the common man would come into his own. Indeed, he envisioned a future world based on human freedom, human equality and human dignity with no distinctions of colour, creed, class or caste. He was a great champion of a new human and a new humanism.
V.R. Narla, the writer of this monograph, is no stranger to the readers of the Makers of Indian Literature Series, for he wrote earlier to the Series on Veeresalingam and Vemana. A veteran journalist, Narla is the author of a score of books in Telugu and English. A former member of the Rajya Sabha, he has received honorary D. Litt. from two Universities.
