Book Description

Foreword

Gandhi smriti and Darshan Samiti (GSDS) is happy to present the book, The Man: As we know him, to the readers, particularly the young ones. We have a great reason to be proud about bringing out this book. Amisha, the author of the book, is a dynamic engineering student who has been introduced to Gandhi, his life and Philosophy at a young age.

Amisha came to GSDS for an internship to understand Gandhian philosophy and the work undertaken by GSDS. She participated in the Yuva Samaj Sadhana Shivir in which youth from different parts of the country participated. She interacted with the youth trying to understand their perspectives, vision and aspirations. She could see for herself the impact of the speakers and the lifestyle practices offered in the Shivir with Gandhian orientation. Besides she was exposed to a rich collection of information and materials on Mahatma Gandhi's life and message in the pavilions of Gandhi Darshan.

In this book, Amisha argues on how important it is for the youth to be truthful. At every point of life we are challenged and on several occasions compromise suppressing our conscience. Gandhi faced many such situations in life. But it was not a reason to compel him to leave the path of truth. It is this affirmation of Gandhi that set him apart from the rest.

Amisha opines if the youth today took to truth as a faith, conviction and a way of life, as Gandhi did, it would bring a silent, nonviolent revolution upholding equality of all human beings and their welfare which Gandhi called 'Sarvodaya'.

This book is a reflection of a young mind, thinking for a better society, drawing from the life and message of Mahatma Gandhi and applying it to the contemporary world. The Man: As we know him must be read by all especially the young people who are committed to work for a peaceful and world based on justice and equality. GSDS presents this book with a hope that this would attract more youth to study and apply Gandhian philosophy in their own lives for a better world.
