About the Book Every society has its own customs, manners, beliefs and superstitions. This book attempts to bring together some of the common beliefs and practices prevalent in the Kathmandu valley and elsewhere, in the hope that visitors to this country will understand the Nepalese people and their behaviour.

I have attempted to bring together in this book some of the common beliefs and practices prevalent in the Kathmandu Valley and elsewhere, in the hope that visitors to this country will understand the Nepalese people and their behaviour.

As elsewhere in the world, the people of Nepal are divided into diverse ethnic groups and castes and have been conditioned by geography, history, religion and tradition into different life styles.
