Book Description

Preface

During a conversation with Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Former President of India at Pune, a question was asked to him about what should be done to promote ayurveda ?" He gave an elaborated answer but the theme of his answer was research and actually it is that answer only which has ignited the spark of research in us. Then we started to explore the domain of research and while diving in the deep ocean of research methodology and medical statistics we have come up with a pearl in the form of this textbook. We were planning to approach Dr. Kalam again for requesting him to write a forward to this text book but God had some different plan. Although Dr. Kalam is not present now in his physical form but he will always remain with all of us in the form of his beautiful teachings. It is in this background that we have decided to dedicate this book to Dr. Kalam.

But it is a matter of great concern that despite of enormous growth in number of ayurvedic colleges over a period of time, it has not resulted in a parallel contribution in the domain of research. Of the various reasons which limit the same, one of the main attribute is the lack of structured teaching of research methodology and medical statistics at the basic level of BAMS. But recently Central Council of Indian Medicine has incorporated as a subject in the syllabus of BAMS, which is really appreciable. A genuine and sincere attempt has been made in the form of this text book with the idea of fulfilling the requirements of that curriculum.

This text book is divided into two sections part A comprises of Research Methodology and Part B comprises of Medical Statistics. Part A and Part B are further divided into nine and eight chapters respectively.
