Book Description
The Panchatantra, a collection of fables, written by Pandit Vishnu Sharma in the 2nd and 3rd centuries B.C., has been the inspiration for many writers all over the world.
The Hitopadesha, a collection of fables written in Sanskrit by Narayana Bhatt in 1100 or 1200 A.D., drew much of its material from the Panchatantra. Though the Panchatantra is divided into five books Bhatt divided his work into four parts. The stories in this collection are taken from Mitralabha and Suhrudbheda – Choice of Friends and How Friends are Parted.
The third section takes stories from the Anwar-i-Suhaili, a Persian version of the Panchatantra, written around 1500 AD.
