About the Author

Sanjay Sharma, a budding astrologer has been studying and practising Astrology since long at Nalagarh in Himachal Pradesh. In this book the author has compared Western astrology and Hindu astrology by taking the best points of both systems and then by incorporating Hindu Mythology Into planet's natural explanation.

Preface

A strology is a valid science as well as art. The position of Sun, Moon, Ascendent and other planets and exact position of all signs, as viewed from earth represent the scientific part of astrology, where as interpreting the planetary positions, the aspects between them and their net result on psychological and predictive analysis of native's life is art by intuition and assimilation of facts, in which a few are born to attain mastery. Astrology does not teach fatalism, rather it shows us the way to learn about our free will, destiny and fate and then to perform Karma, according to cooperation with the different planet principles. It shows us our strengths and weaknesses and the way to move along with the planetary tendencies. With my own experience, I have found it to be a true science and art determining our fate and destiny. I have tried to compare Western astrology and Hindu astrology by taking the best points of both systems and then incorporate Hindu Mythology into planet's natural explanation. I hope, this experience and exercise will be fruitful for the readers. I pray to Lord Narayan, Shri Man Shakti and Lord Shiva to prove this effort a success.

I am thankful to My Cousin, "Vandna," the ever efficient, talkative and constructive critic Virgo, who inspired an early interest in Western Astrology. "My Mother," a true Taurean, without whose steadfast and loyal love plus inspiration and practical insistence, I could not have read or written anything related to astrology and this book would have remained another Neptunian dream. Lastly but not the least my thanks are also to my brother "Arun (Bobby)," the innocent, combative and effervascent Arian and my sisters, "Neeru," the always happy, optimistic and gregarius but skeptical, Saggitarian. "Anu," the dominating, objective but warm Leo. "Sunanda," sullen, but sensitive and sentimental, tenacious Cancerian.

Introduction

This book has been designed to inspire an early interest in astrology and to highlight the main differences between Hindu or Indian and Greek or Western astrology. Still chief emphasis is on western astrology. First of all Sun signs according to tropical zodiac (which I have found more valid with my personal experience) are described in detail; Sun being the most important planet and stellar body in our solar system, Moon occupying the 2nd most importance. Then special remarks about elements and signs are given. Then a note about Hindu mythology is given. Continuing differences between Sidreal and Tropical zodiac are given. Then planets are described in detail, starting from their initiation to full details about their behaviour. Then rising sign or Ascendant has been described in detail. Further, twelve houses of the zodiac in a horoscope are described in detail with their practical implications. Then Moon sign has been described in brief. Again further, differences between Indian and Western astrology have been described in brief. Then various sure shot practical "Yogas" for prediction are given. Then various "Yogkark grahas" that is special effect giving planets based on "Laghu Parashri" (an Indian Classic) have been described, because their effects and implications have been felt very accurately by me. Then a new chapter on combining Numerology and planetary positions is given for predictive astrology. In the end on astrological section, the struggle between freewill, intelligence, fate and destiny is given. Lastly, in the part on occult principles, 21 occult principles has been described, because I feel astrology is strongly related to occult and divine. I hope readers will take my effort in an objective way. I pray to Lord Ganesh, Shri Man Maha Luxami and Man Saraswati to bless this effort.
