Advanced Educational Psychology

Educational psychology remains no more confined to the application of psychological principles, rather it strives to test their validity to regular day-to-day teaching. The researches into actual life and problems confronting the process of education are being continuously made by the educational psychologists so as to attain the ends of education. The present book intensively studies factors and conditions that are determinant of learning in the light of researches made by Aristotle, Freud, Adler, Jung, Piaget, Pestalozzi, Herbart, Froebel,Thorndike, Hall to name a few.

Intended primarily to cater to the academic needs of Indian students, the present book is unique in itself as it is not set in the Western environment and ideally keeps pace with the recent developments in the subject. Easily comprehensible and lucid in style, the book is rich in its contents and coverage. While its Bibliography will enable the students to pursue the topics in greater detail, the question bank will facilitate recapturing of the topics discussed. It will undoubtedly prove useful to students, teachers, educators, guidance and counseling personnel, and administrators of educational institutions.

Ram Nath Sharma, M.A., D.Phil., D.Litt., has been President: U.P. Philosophers Association for a decade; LMI: Indian Philosophical Association and Darshan Parishad; Director: Sri Aurobindo Research Institute; Chief Editor: Research Journal of Philosophy and Social Science; Head of the Department of P.G. Studies and Research at Meerut College for two decades. He has guided more than two dozen Ph.D. scholars. Dr. Sharma has authored more than one hundred research papers and an equal number of books in the field of Education and Psychology.

Rajendra Kumar Sharma is M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D., U.G.C. Research Fellow, Panjab University, Chandigarh (1985-1988), and has worked on I.C.S.S.R. Sponsored Project (1987)-'Overseas Indian Entrepreneurs in Kenya: He is LMI: Indian Sociological Society, Uttar Pradesh Samaj Shastra Parishad, Indian Research Association, U.P. Darshan Parishad. He is author of dozens of papers and books on Sociology both in Hindi and English. Dr. Sharma has utilised his experience of teaching Sociology to postgraduate and undergraduate students for writing ideal textbooks on almost all the papers taught in this subject at the Indian Universities. He taught at N.A.S. P.G. College, Meerut (1987-1991). At present he is Lecturer at N.R.E.C. (P.G.) College, Ch.Charan Singh University.

During the course of teaching educational psychology to graduate and post-graduate students, the authors felt the need for a suitable textbook on this subject which may cover the syllabi of Indian Universities and maintain a balanced outlook. The books written by Western authors are set in Western environment and hardly cater to the needs of Indian students. The present book is an attempt to provide a model textbook excluding all unnecessary elaborations and including whatever is required to maintain a good standard. The language of the book is simple and lucid.

In such an attempt as this the authors naturally depend on whatever material has been presented by those who have preceded their efforts. The authors express their deep sense of gratitude to all of them.

Insight in educational psychology depends as much on mutual exchange of ideas among teachers as on personal experience and learning. Any such exchange of views will be most welcome.
