Book Description

Preface

Sanskrit Academy feels very happy to bring out an exceptional poem in Sanskrit titled "Raaghava-Yaadaveeyam", an anuloma-viloma kavya composed by Sri Venkatadhvari of 17th century A. D. This Kavya consists of thirty verses and deals with the stories of Sri Rama and Sri Krishna together by adopting the style of anuloma and viloma i.e. reading each sloka in regular and also in reverse order. Here each sloka, when read in anuloma form narrates the story of Sri Rama and tells the story of Sri Krishna when read in the reverse order. Therefore, one can say that this work actually contains sixty slokas in all.
If epic Ramayana of sage Valmiki was the base for the story of Sri Rama, Venkatadhvari's Sri Krishna in this work was the inspiration drawn from poems like Parijatapaharanam which in turn had roots in Vedavyasa's Mahabhagavatam.
The style of Raghava-Yadaveeyam is a little difficult to comprehend and that was the reason the poet himself came up with a commentary in simple Sanskrit. He had quoted references from Amarakosha and others to strengthen his ideas for explaining the method of Anuloma-Viloma.
