Preface
Geography is closely related with the man and his surrounding environment from where he gets food, clothing materials and materials for the construction of houses. Environmental cleanliness is highly essential as it helps man to obtain clean water for drinking, clean air to breathe and clean soil for healthy production of food. The planning of environment requires the systematic modification of pockets of polluted environment for man's healthy living and saving the mother earth from denudation of land and degradation of forest wealth which is detrimental for the emancipation of mankind.

In the current volume there are 18 papers collected at the venue of seminar entitled "Man and the Environment" organised on 21 and 22 September, 1992 at R.D. & D.J. College, Munger. Most of papers are on general conceptual framework of the subject while others are related with Bihar, India and abroad.

I am highly grateful to D.P. Yadava, Ex. M.P., Munger who sponsored the seminar on the behalf of Association for Wastelands Development.
