Book Description

About the Book
The author Professor Angraj Chaudhary taught and did research work at Nava Nalanda Mahavihara, Nalanda, for about twenty-nine years before he joined the present post. His first love was English literature. Then he switched over to Päli literature and Buddhist philosophy which he studied as thoroughly and deeply as he had studied English literature. His doctoral thesis on Comparative Aesthetics: East and West enabled him to develop an insight into literature which is comprehensive and perceptive. His study of English literature and Pāli literature broadened his outlook.

The flowering of his genius sharpened by his careful and critical study of two different kinds of literature, one chiefly secular and other largely religious and ethical, is evident from some of the essays collected in this book. Nature in the Theragatha, Similes in the Samaññaphala Sutta, Contribution of Buddhism in the Field of Rasa, Buddha's view of Beauty, and Buddhist Literature and Santa Rasa bear ample testimony to this. His other essays collected in this book deal with various aspects of Buddhism and its salient features.

Currently he is engaged in writing a book on Buddhist Aesthetics in which his attempt will be to bring out the salient features of the 'beautiful' according to Buddha.
