Makers of Indian Literature- Amaranatha Jha

AMARANATHA JHA (1897-1955) was a great educationist. Born in Mithila and brought up in the cosmopolitan environment of Allahabad under the guardianship of his father, Ganganatha Jha, a renowned indologist, he chose to be a guru of an unusual kind. A guru, who developed a life-time concern for his campus and worked hard for the healthy growth of cultural and educational institutions. Courageous by nature and fearless in expressing his conviction, Amaranatha Jha always pursued and prescribed a path of long-term vision. The book describes the travails of a man who remained identified with Allahabad and its university not only as a product but as one of the chief architects who made Allahabad an important cultural and educational centre of the country.

HETUKAR JHA, Professor of Sociology, Patna University, has been working on the society and culture of Bihar for the last thirty years. His monograph on Ganganatha Jha was published by the Sahitya Akademi in 1992. Besides, he has published nine books and more than sixty research papers in various journals of India and abroad. He is associated with a number of organizations/societies of the country which are promoting research in social sciences and history.
