The Manushyalaya Chandrika Retold- The Ancient Science of Vastu-II

The Manushyalaya Chandrika, a sixteenth-century scripture originally penned in Sanskrit for domestic architecture, is one such text. The original work authored by Shri Thirumangalath Neelakanthan Musath is a summary of the basic principles of domestic architecture taken from various scriptures. This text contains 246 verses spread over 7 chapters and is a quick read. It gives a brief idea of the architectural preferences native to the coastal regions of Southern Karnataka and Kerala.

The essence of this particular scripture is clear in its very name "Manushyalaya Chandrika", where Manushya means Human, Alaya means Home, and Chandrika means Illuminator. Simply put, the Manushyalaya Chandrika is the scripture that illuminates and guides about the dwelling of a human- THE HOME.

In every scripture, we find that it always begins with an invocation. Here names of various gods, goddesses, and Guru are invoked to seek blessings from them. We have to make sure whatever work we undertake, we finish it without hurdles. That's why invocation is very important.
