Book Description
The present book on Sri Aurobindo's Savitri is a significant effort to explore the main line of symbolism of the epic. While relating the philosophy of the Yogi-poet to post modern issues, the author also links the legend to its original source of the Mahabharata of Vyasa. There is a short account of the history of composition of Savitri and a detailed study of the poetic style of Sri Aurobindo. Taking note of the various charges leveled at the opus, the author has attempted to defend the poem against these charges. Some complex and profound issues have been made comprehensible by the simple language and easy style of the author and this makes the book immensely readable.
Madhumita Dutta is presently serving as Assistant Professor of English at Vidyasagar College for Women, Kolkata. She has obtained her Ph.D. degree from Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan, West Bengal. She has presented papers at several International conferences abroad, and is actively engaged in Sri Aurobindo studies.
