A Seminar on Supervision (An Old and Rare Book)

Preface The teachers in the various Schools of Social Work in India have for a long time felt the need for material on supervisory process in field work. When schools made their beginning, there were hardly any trained personnel in the agencies; and even now when a beginning has been made towards employment of trained social workers, they are unable to assume responsibility as Field Work Super- visors' as is done in countries like the United States of America due to various limitations. The responsibility hence lies on the shoulders of the present teachers of the various schools to learn their role as supervisors through experience. However in case of our Faculty help of Miss Olive Swoboda, Visiting Professor was availed of by the teachers who collectively (in seminar) as well as individually sought her guidance to enhance their own ability as supervisors.

The pamphlet attempts to cover what past and the present teachers have deliberated at the bi-monthly seminar. Thanks are due to all staff, past and present, and to Miss Oliva Swoboda but for whose efforts this pamphlet could be not have been published and shared with personnel in the field.

We hope it will be of value to social workers who are charged with this important but difficult task of supervising the social workers of tomorrow..
