Book Description

Foreword

Noted thinker Krishna Murti has said : "An individual is the universe and the whole universe is an individual." It means that we can see the problems of the world reflected in the individual. We should view programme of Shanti Sena in this perspective. Acharya Vinoba Bhave had given an inspiring maxim : "Peace in mind and revolution in the mode of society." The age-old notions of "individual religion and "nation-states" have become out-dated. Hence we should approach all problems with a world outlook. "Think globally and act locally"—should be our motto. The greatest untruth of our present age is inequality—which is the basic cause of commotion and quarrel. But if we take recourse to violence to end inequality we will destroy the whole of humanity and science has provided us with Atom bombs. Hence compassion oriented revolution or non-violent social change is the only practical way to establish an equalitarian society. Bapu in his last Testament has also warned that too much reliance on police and military power will usher a dictatorship and destroy our democracy. Hence, Shanti Sena is not a Gandhian fad, it is an imperative of modern society. I am happy, this English translation comes from South India, Gandhigram, which has been a citadel of Shanti Sena. We shall over come some day.
