About the Author
Prof. Vasant C. Patil graduated from SVM Ayurvedic College, Ilkal affiliated to RGUHS, Bangalore. He completed M.D. (Panchakarma) in August 2006 from Institute for Post Graduate Teaching & Research in Ayurveda (IPGTRA), Gujrat Ayurved University, Jamnagar. He is well versed in Classical &Keraliya Panchakarma. He is practicing Ayurveda since 2001 and engaged in teaching since 2006.

He published 15 papers in research journals & 5 articles in magazines. Author also reviewed more than 15 articles of Peer Reviewed International Journals. Currently he is working as executive editor for Journal of Ayurveda and Holistic Medicine (JAHM).

Recipient of 2' prize in an essay competition on "Rationale behind Panchakarma Therapy" recoganized by Punarnava Ayurveda, Mahabalipuram (2006).

Recipient of 1' prize in an essay competition on "BahirparimarjanaCikitsa" organized by Dr. Ishwara Reddy Memorial Trust, at Bellary (2007).

Foreword
Pancakarma, the fastest growing specialty of Ayurveda globally, presents a unique approach of Ayurveda with specially designed five procedures of internal purification of the body through the nearest possible route. Such purification permits the biological system to return to normalcy & to rejuvenate rapidly and also facilitates the desired pharmacokinetic & therapeutic effects of medicines administered thereafter.

Author of this book has made great effort of writing a book on Pancakarma by describing each therapy analytically & critically, using various Ayurvedic texts, commentary contemporary research works and experiences of eminent physicians. Currently, very few books on Pancakarma are available in English language.

Fundamentals of Pancakarma and Purvakarma are described in separate chapters, which is the unique feature of this book.

In the chapter therapeutic Pancakarma, the Pancakarma in different diseases is described which is very practical and essential for students.

The classifications, dose, indications, contraindications etc. are presented in tabular form for easier and better understanding. The mode of action has been described in Ayurvedic as well in modern views in order to highlight the scientific foundation of action of therapies.
