Book Description

Foreword
In the literature of the whole world the historic epic Mahabharata is unparallel. Maharsi Vyasa declares Maha. Adi. 62/53

O the best among the Bharata Race ! In connection with Dharma (Religion), Aratha (Wealth), Kama (Desire) and Moksha (Liberation) whatever has been said in this book, the same is elsewhere. Whatever is not narrated here, is nowhere else.

According to context in Mahabharata, several Nitis have been compiled. In which Narada-Niti, Kanik-Niti and Vidura-Niti are very famous.

Amongst them all, the sermon which was delivered by high soled Vidura to Dhrtrastra is the most pathetic and marvelous. It should have been so, because Vidura himself was a great politician, most learned and righteous person endued with great wisdom . He was fearless and truthful.

In this book besides the fundamental principles and deep knowledge of politics, there are sermons which elevate the character of a man. It is for this reason the great educationist Maharsi Dayananda Saraswati has prescribed this book in the course of the studies.

The corrupt officials of the state and the promising students should study it minutely and ponder over it. By doing so they should achieve victory over five enemies, viz., passion, anger, agreed, attachment and self-conceit. Until and unless the officials of the state will not give up their addiction to evil passion and vice, neither India will progress nor will the subject enjoy peace and happiness.

Many editions of Vidura-Niti have been published in Hindi language. According to my knowledge, this is the first edition comprising three languages i.e. Sanskrit, Hindi and English. Among the editions published uphill now, this is the best because-

1. The Sanskrit-Text has been published correctly with great accuracy.

2. Elaborate translation of each verse has been given.

3. Where necessary special notes have been given, so that the meaning may become clear.

4. The variations of the text have also been shown.

I thank my operator Mr. Vijay Kumar Jha for taking great pains in composing and setting the matter in a stylish way. I also thank Shri Dhananjaya Kulkarni, lecturer and journalist of Hydrabada, Shri Amolak Singh Kanva of Paschim Vihar, Delhi and Smt. Savitri Gupta of Saraswati Vihar, Delhi for going through English translation.

I hope the intelligent reader will appreciate this work.
