Book Description

About The Book

He is an enigma. He transcends space and time. Centuries ago His inspiration had helped Saint Tulsi Das in composing the "Ram Charit Manas" and later certified it. The great poet himself had acknowledged the grace of Lord Shankar in the composition of the great epic. Copious references to the phrase "Shankar Roopinaam" appear in this book while alluding to the great Guru.

His worldly antecedents extending to several centuries past remain unknown or undisclosed. He never deemed it necessary to disclose His identity or His past even to His chosen disciple Shri Upendraji of Gayatri Siddhpeeth, Khadesar, Kanpur, in whose presence He took Samadhi in an obscure and inaccessible spot in the Himalayas, hinting only this much that His Samadhi would extend to a couple of centuries. He, however, assured the disciple of His grace, benevolence and guidance as and when needed.

Before going on the long Samadhi, He demonstrated the power of Traatak' by completely drying up a green and full-grown tree by a mere terse look and subsequently restoring the tree to its original lively and green state by a benevolent glance. Before He took Samadhi the great Guru had demonstrated and taught Upendraji the rare Yogic feat of Parakaaya Pravesh" or the transmigration of one's Praana in to a dead person's body and rendering the body alive and the subsequent restoration of the Praana to its original body. Adi Shankaracharya was reported to have performed a similar act earlier. Innumerable other miracles pertaining to the Mahayogi have been referred to in this book. They defy reason and only deep faith can comprehend them in the proper perspective.

As was perhaps pre-ordained, Shri Lallan Prasad Vyas had the good fortune of experiencing to some extent the grace and benevolence of the Mahanaayak along with Shri Upendraji. Shri Vyas has ventured to bring out this book as a token of his gratitude and fulfilment, for the benefit of the blessed ones who stand destined to share the grace bestowed by the great Mahayogi.

Preface

This book was originally written and published in my mother tongue and our national language Hindi in the year 1990 under the title "Woh Mahayogi". A Second Hindi edition with a slightly changed title "Woh Rahasyamai Mahayogi" was published in the year 1994, with some additions, mainly relating to the Vishwa Ramayan Sammelans (World Ramayana Conferences). During that period itself some well-meaning friends, devotees and 'Sadhaks from different parts of India as well as from abroad had requested me to bring out an English version of the book for the benefit of those who are not well-conversant with Hindi or do not know Hindi.

Eventually some friends from abroad sent me some English translations of the book but I was not satisfied about the quality. I was in search of a competent person who could take proper care for the quality of language as well as the nuances of the spiritual contents of the book. It was a pleasant surprise when Sri N.K. Nair, a Senior Advocate of Kanpur, a disciple of Shri Upendraji and a close associate of Gayatri Siddh Peeth, who has been rendering legal assistance to Upendraji and the Ashram whenever required, suggested that an English version of the book be brought out and he volunteered to render the English translation himself. Being well versed in both English and Hindi languages and also being sincerely devoted to spiritual pursuits, his effort was bound to succeed and I was satisfied with his translation.

However, by the time his translation came, the third edition of the book under the caption "Mahavirat Ki Anubhooti Aur Darshan" was already published, with some additions and modifications, necessitating fresh translation of the latest edition of the book.
