Book Description

About the Book
The book, The Wisdom of the Gita, is an outcome of a deep study of the Gita over a long period and broadly covers the main teachings enshrined in the scripture. The Gita is not merely a holy book meant for reverence and ritual worship, but it is a fountain spring of true knowledge and wisdom, which can be considered as a manual for righteous living.

This small book acquaints the readers with the fundamentals of life, which include the human body and the soul, pleasure and pain, God and nature, good and evil, the different qualities inherent in human beings, yoga, meditation, desires and other similar aspects. The book has been specially designed for the busy man of the present day, who has no time to read voluminous titles!

About the Author
The author of this book, Mr. J.M. Mehta, is a post-graduate in English literature and a topper in B.Ed examination from the Punjab University. After a brief service in the Punjab Education Department, he was selected for the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). He held various responsible assignments both at the headquarters and abroad including postings in U.K., Russia, Kenya, Vietnam and the Philippines. Mr. Mehta, after retiring from the Ministry of External Affairs in 1993, has been devoting much of his time in reading and writing.

Preface
The Gita holds a unique position among the ancient scriptures of the world. Numerous commentaries have already been written on the Gita. However, despite its great importance, its living truths have not reached the teeming millions in India, who consider it more as an object of worship and reverence. Some excellent books written by outstanding and eminent persons have become either reference books in libraries or show-pieces in elite houses, educational and religious institutions. These books are also voluminous and high-priced and hence beyond the interest and access of an average Indian. Consequently the real teachings of the Gita have not percolated down the common masses.
