It is a fiilly developed and well established religion and cultural system that emerged from 6 century BC The characteristic feature of this religion is its claim to universality which it holds mainly in opposition to Brahmanism. It can be said that for the last 2500 years the Jains have contributed so much to every sphere of life of Indian people both as a religion and a philosophy They contributed much to the areas of culture, language, trade and agriculture, or in other words the Jains opened up a new phase of human ideas and thoughts.
