Preface

This book is aimed to furnish the basic material on the very difficult subject like Hermeneutics - the science of interpretation and interpretative articles about the area of Sk. and historical events as well as methodology and contribution.

There are too much discussions regarding this subject in the west. In India it is there but not so popular. We have heard much more about the criticism but not about the interpretation, The word 'interpreter' is known as he provides the means of communication between the two unknown language speaking persons to each other. The field of interpretation is vast. There is not a single volume like this, So I have collected, chosen, edited and compiled the materials from various authentic sources of western and Indian works.

In this book the area of interpretation about literature is discussed.

There are the scholarly works that contain deep arguments in favour and against the topic with rigorous reasoning. I have not criticised too much. I have provided all functional materials about the field.

To understand the literary interpretation one must have some background of the basic concepts of the poetics, the different theories of meaning, basic philosophy of language, the various genres of literature and the knowledge of their constituents, the basic knowledge about the 'isms' and theories of criticism and the concept of evaluation. All these elements are connected with interpretation.

There is nothing that is new but it is culled from the ocean like works and necessary material is put. It can facilitate the readers.

The right interpretation can be helpful to judge and evaluate the work of literature by grasping and comprehending. May it encourage the reader to go deeper for strengthening the understanding.

The credit and fame goes to original thinkers and authors. I am like water-giver at Prapa. I am nothing but only 'Nimitta' in this task. Dr. Harisaben of Bulasar has inspired me to write this, thus the love of her family is responsible for this work.

I am heartily thankful to all respected authors of the source works and publishers and acknowledge the 'Rna' for using and referring to.

This will be published in Gujarati language shortly by Parshva Publications - Ahmedabad. I pay respect to true professors - Mr. Jashavant Shekhadivala of Gujarati in the S. P. University - Vidyanagar - Anand and Dr. Laxmesh V. Joshi of Sanskrit [Nyaya and Mimamsa] of Gujarat University, Ahmedbad.

My dear and near Vayasya Prof. Vijay D. Pandya [Department of Sanskrit Gujarat Uni.] and Prof. Ravajibhai Patel, Prof. A. M. Shah, Prof. Krishnadev Arya, Prin. K. D. Acharyand Prin. P. S. Patel, Govindo and Hemant Dave have been bestowing feelings of love so they are ever remembered to me with Bhaneja Desai Dinesh in mind. Prof. Ramesh Mali and Daru Manoj-couple are encouragers.

I thank typesetter, Printer and my friend who has published all my works without getting any profit - that Babubhai Shah of Parshva Publications. The diacritical marks system is used. Some errors may be crept in. Creative suggestions are accepted.

There are published works of mine that have contained the Indian and Western basic concepts regarding this field : 1. The basic semantics in Gujarati. 2. The basic Philosophical criticism in Gujarati. 3. The Explanatory Dictionary of Sanskrit-Western literary terms in English-Gujarati. 4. The basic Sanskirit-Western interpretative concepts in English [and separately in Gujarati booklet]. Ramila Vaid has looked after the secular responsibility, so I accept her debt.
