George Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, the great German thinker was born at Stuttgart on August 27, 1770. Right from his school days he was an avid reader, interested in classical writers on various branches of knowledge such as mathematics, morals, etc. In 1788 he enrolled himself in übingen University and graduated in philosophy and classics in 1790. Later, he joined in the theological course but he left it due to his opposition to the practices of the Church. In college he devoted himself vigorously to philosophy.
