About the Author N.Rama krishnan has produced a concise history of the contribution of these nine leaders who are termed as the navratnas of the CPI(M). By bringing together the collective history of the contribution of these nine leaders, Com.N.Rama krishnan has done a valuable service.

Preface The book "The Founders of the CPI(M)" written by Com.N. Ramakrishnan deals with the lives of nine communist leaders who were instrumental in the formation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Comrades P. Sundarayya, A K Gopalan, EMS Namboodiripad, B.T. Ranadive, M. Basavapunnaiah, Harkishan Singh Surjeet, P Ramamurthi, Jyoti Basu and Pramod Dasgupta were members of the Polit Bureau which was constituted at the 7 of the CPI(M) in 1964. All these nine leaders became active in the anti imperialist struggle against British rule and subsequently joined the Communist Party. They came to the helm of the leadership of the united Communist Party due to the major contributions they made to the the working class and peasant movements and the Communist Party.

Foreword I heartily congratulate Comrade N.Ramakrishnan for painstakingly collecting the information on the lives of the founders of the CPI(M) during his long association with them at the CPI(M) Parliamentary Party Centre at Delhi, as he explains. They are the navratnas of the Communist movement in India.
