Book Description
The great epics like Ramayana and Mahabaratha are known to each and every scholars and readers. Although village people of illiterates also know of these two epics. But in India, regional folk epics remain largely unexplored. However, in South India especially in Karnataka numerous epics are existed and no one can placed in Ramayana and Mahabaratha level.
Karnataka is accumulated with various culture complex, traditions and rituals etc. In Karanataka, Coorg District is popularised as a second Kashmir and living different peoples, especially Kodavas whose culture, traditional songs, riddles, language, dress pattern are entirely different from others.
Dr.Hebbale K. Nagesh presently working as Senior Grade Lecturer in the Department of Folklore, Kannada University, Hampi Vidyaranya 583276, in Karnataka, obtained his M.A. Economics at Mangalore University in 1986, M.A. Folklore at Mysore University in 1993, P.G. Diploma in Indian Literature & P.G. Diploma in Linguistic from Mysore University in 1994. He got Ph.D. Degree from Mysore University in 1999, on "Performing Arts of Kodavas", under the guidance of Professor R. V. S. Sundaram. He worked as a lecturer in Coorg & Mysore. He actively involved in the field of Folk Mass Communication and Kannada Literature.
When I joined the Department of Folklore, Kannada University, Hampi in 1997, I am very much involved in research work on Folklore of North Karnataka. Indeed, I really astonished and very much glad to understand the richest culture of North Karnataka Enviers which provoked and inspired me. I recollected my memories, nostalgic and decided myself to exhibit the crucial thoughts about Karnataka Folklore.
