Book Description

From the Jacket:

What is love at the first sight? How do lovers meet, and where? How does passion affect men and women? What are remembrance, pathos, laughter and fury? Keshavadasa, the Hindi poet of love, who lived in the colourful age of Akbar, the great Mughal, gives novel answer to these questions, and many others, in Rasikapriya.

He was not only a great poet, but also a skilled courtier, a clever historian, a learned scholar, a consummate artist in language and a connoisseur of horses. He wrote about love and women with an ease and beauty known to few Hindi Poets.

Now for the first time a translation of Rasikapriya is available to English readers. There can be no more befitting comment on this great book than the one made by the poet himself: 'By reading Rasikapriya the poet himself: 'By reading Rasikapriya understanding of love increases, knowledge is gained of all love's ways, andboth pleasure and salvation are attained. As amorous men appear unhappy day after day without their beloveds, so do the poets appear without Rasikapriya.
