Book Description
Kartar Singh Duggal is one of the earliest story writers in Punjabi, who have made a significant contribution in refining features of Punjabi story writing. Making the genre of Punjabi Story writing richer in form and subject, he has successfully brought the art of Punjabi story writing on the lines of Western story writing. There has been a lot of development in the second stage of Punjabi story writing. Perhaps it would not be untrue to remark that in terms of beautifying the features of a Punjabi story and making it follow the path of modern short story, the second generation of story writers have made much more important contribution in which the name of Kartar Singh Duggal may be mentioned prominently.
A special feature of Duggal's stories is that many of these are related to the partition of the country. In this collection also, we have included the stories like, "Dhoya Hoyia Buha" (Closed Door), "Agg Khaan Wale" (Fire-eaters), "Tain ki Drd Na ya" (Did you not feel pity) and others that deal with this subject. He picks up an ordinary incident, and with his artistic skills transforms it into a good story. Starting his stories before 1947 and continuing these stories even after the 1984 incidents, he describes several situations, and circumstances, and then links those situations with the contemporary times.
