About the Author

Kušakratha dāsa, an accomplished Sanskrit and Bengali scholar, is an initiated disciple of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda, “Founder Acharya of the International Society for Krşņa Consciousness.” Peter took the spiritual name “Kusakratha dasa” in 1971 spending many years thereafter constantly studying the ancient Vedic scriptures of India, learning the Sanskrit and Bengali languages the literatures are written in. Even before coming to Krşņa Consciousness, Kusakratha had been voracious reader of philosophy, studying the Bhagavad-gita and other spiritual literatures even as a young boy.

His spiritual master, Śrila Prabhupāda, had translated and pu lished between the years of 1965 and 1977, the most important Vedic texts, namely Bhagavad-gitā, Bhāgavata-Purāņa, Bhakti-rasāmộta-sindhu, Caitanya-Caritāmsta, and many others establishing the “Bhaktivedanta Book Trust” for their distribution.

Šrila Prabhupāda on several occasions expressed his intention to translate all the Vaisnava writings for the benefit of mankind, and it is to the credit of Kusakratha dasa, in service to his spiritual master, that he has so far translated dozens of these ancient spiritual texts set down by the chief Vedic scholars and spiritual leaders of India's past. We are most indebted to Kušakratha das for his prodigious output, he has rendered a great service to all devotees of God through his sublime Krsna Bhakti.

Introduction

Śrī Stavāvalī is a collection of many groups of prayers composed by Śrīla Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī. By carefully reading these prayers, one has a close look at the mentality of an exalted pure devotee completely immersed in feelings of separation from Śrī Śrī Rādhā – Krşņa and his spiritual masters, possessing not even a slight tinge of desire for enjoyment of the material senses independently of the service of the Lord.

Kuśakratha Prabhu is at his finest in this type of work. All of the prayers are very beautifully and poetically translated and indeed, one must only wonder at the poetic genius at work here! These prayers are especially to be relished by devotees on the platform of rāgānuga – bhakti and thus eager to follow in the footstep of the residents of Vịndāvana. Still, here is pure glorification of Sri Srī Rādhā - Krsna and Their abode, and thus relishable for all classes of devotees.

We pray to the worldwide community to kindly overlook the errors, if any, in this presentation and bless our whole team to continue this service of bringing more and more Vaisnava literatures of our Previous Acāryas and Contemporary devotees for their pleasure.
