The present book is an anthology of essays exploring different aspects of Indian Writing in English. The writers discussed in these essays include Raja Rao, Monika Varma, Kamala Das, Ruth Prawer Jhabvala and Chaman Nahal from a comparatively older generation and Mamta Kalia, Eunice de Souza, Manju Kapur, Imtiaz Dharker, Kanwar Dinesh Singh, Milanie Silgardo and Aravind Adiga from the new generation of poets and novelists. Since several of these writers have been included in the curricula of various colleges and universities, it is hoped that this book will be of great help to the researchers, students, teachers and readers of Indian Writing in English.

About the Author

Dr. Kanwar Dinesh Singh is a poet, writer, critic and translator based at Shimla, India. His publications include nine volumes of poetry in English, four volumes of poetry in Hindi and overeight books in literary criticism, besides several research papers in Indian English Writing, Comparative Literature and American and Australian poetry. He is editor of Hyphen (ISSN 0975 2897) an international journal of interdisciplinary studies in literature, art & culture. His poems, articles, reviews and interviews have appeared through a number of reputed journals, newspapers, magazines and e-zines in India and abroad. Dr. Singh is the recipient of "Sahitya Akademi Award 2002" (Government of Himachal Pradesh) for his poetry in English, besides "Acharya Mahavir Prasad Dwivedi Samman 2004", "Shabda-Shree Akhil - Bharatiya Sahitya Samman - 2010 and 2011" and "Setu Akhil Bharatiya Sahitya Samman 2010" for his Hindi poetry and "Saraswat Samman-2010" for literary criticism. Currently, Dr. Singh is Assistant Professor of English at Government Postgraduate College, Solan, H.P., Counsellor for MA (English) and ELT Courses of Indira Gandhi National Open University and Research Guide for M. Phil. and Ph. D. at Himachal Pradesh University.

Indian writing in English is growing continually with a faster tempo. Every year we have a number of publications in fiction, non-fiction, poetry and criticism both from writers at home and writers overseas adding significantly to the corpus of the Indian Literature. Indeed, it is the quality of the Indian writers that now they find recognition and place in the curricula of various universities and colleges across the world.
