Book Description
Sri Khanderao Kulkarni lived in Hyderabad State from 1930 and actively participated in social, cultural and educational activities. He had been involved with the Keshav Memorial School in various capacities, retiring as Principal. He was in contact with the revolutionary movement during the freedom struggle. He observed the Razakar atrocities during Nizam's rule at close quarters and the political changes of uprising. History being his favourite subject, he probed deeply and without prejudice, into the events and personalities involved. To collect material for this book, he visited all the places in person, bearing the expenses from his pocket at a huge cost for his health.
Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha, associate of Sardar Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad Although more than two decades have passed since the dawn of independence, very limited knowledge of authentic and detailed history of the struggle for independence is available. Of course, biographies of some leaders and martyrs have been published but there seems to be a lamentable lack of literature that describes the valiant saga of those heroes who challenged the powerful British rule, who mounted a fierce battle against it and suffered many brutalities. The history of this struggle should be fully documented and described since it is the heritage of our nation. This knowledge will inspire our youth to defend and strengthen the freedom that has been earned, and will prepare them to build an India in which the idea of exploitation of man by man will be ended for all time and every house in this vast country will glow with the splendor of light. Hence, Shri Khanderao ji's work is highly welcome. This book answers the demand of this age and fulfills its need. It describes the fiery and courageous struggles of common people against the infamous age-old faithful ally of British imperialism - the Nizam. Nizam and his followers, the Razákárs, had adopted a policy of brutal oppression to crush the opposition of common people. Ultimately the people fought it with great bravery and succeeded in destroying the tyrannical feudal regieme of Nizám. Shri Khanderao jí has been an idealist since his youth. Long ago he first came into contact with those who were working with the revolutionary movement, in which many men and women, known and unknown were fighting for the independence of the motherland, as if organized into an army. As a result of this, he developed a democratic vision of history in which the role of masses is highlighted, not just of a handful of leaders which is what some learned people usually do. Hence, in this book, the author has brought out a living picture of the struggle of the people. Ordinary men and women of villages have been shown to be the steely determined soldiers of this war, and their hopes and expectations, generosity and sacrifice have been detailed in a graphic and interesting manner. With this book as the objective, the writer moved from village to village for months on adverty end and collected material. Due to these efforts, where the narrative t is thrilling it is also specially inspiring. Let our new generation learni how and at what great cost we have achieved this freedom. From this viewpoint, this book is very important and interesting.
