Mahabharata- Cultural Index (Volume Three, Fascicule 3)

This is the third fascicule of the third volume, through which it is intended to record the proper names of the characters in the Mahabharata. The present fascicule contains entries beginning with Arjuna and ending with Asvatthaman. After the entries of seventy-seven minor characters of the epic, the entry of Asvatthaman runs through 72 pages. While giving the details of these characters we have recorded all the information available on them in the Constituted Text as well as in the Critical Apparatus and the Appendices.

I wish to thank both the Editorial Assistants for their help in preparing this fascicule. I thank Shri Sudheer Vaishampayan, Hon. Secretary, for his efforts to get adequate funding for the sustenance of the project.

I also do record my thanks to Dr. Shreenand L. Bapat for the lay-out and design of this work and for making the list of contents.

It is a matter of great pleasure for me to publish this third fascicule of the third volume of the Mahabharata - Cultural Index' containing the data of personal names with a large entry on Asvatthaman, the major character of the epic.

I congratulate the General Editor Prof. G. U. Thite and his Editorial Assistants for successfully bringing out this fascicule, which, I believe, shall be useful for researchers of the field.
