About the Author Ganapati Singh Verma dedicated his whole life for the cause of human welfare through his field of specialisation. His works were designed to bring man closer to the nature in the era of science & technology. He devoted his youth in gathering information on the Indian system of Medicine both from the ancient texts and the holymen (saints) who practised it to combat the diseases prevedent among the masses. He observed the sole reason for gradual decline of people's faith in Indian system of Medicine as not the influence of long period of British rule in India alone but the inability of the people to understand the contents of the text books on the subject. He, therefore, concentrated all his efforts in bridging this gap by writing the literature in non-technical but comprehensive language.
Whereas he never under-rated the teachings of ancient texts or prescribed pharmacoepial medicines therein but, for fear of the modern vaidyas inabilities in working out the adequate combinations thereof, he stressed on experimenting the trusted and time-tested formulations of Saints for overcoming the evils of disease. Prior to his efforts, these formulations used to remain confined to them alone and vanished with their joining the majority.
Foreword "Miracles of Onion" is the second publication of the "Household remedies Series". It has come to the hands of the readers rather late due to certain unexpected pre-occupations. We understand the inconvenience of the readers and hope to be excused for having kept them waiting so long. Onion is so commonly used as an adjunct to food throughout the length and breadth of the country that it is available in almost every house at all times. It is a well known fact that onion is useful for digestive troubles and for local use in insect bites. These are the commonest emergencies in a household. The wide utility of this booklet is therefore, apparent. Use of onion in all sorts of troubles in which it can possibly be used has been discussed in the book and receipes of experienced Vaidyas have been given. The language of the book is non technical so that it suits laymen. We shall think our efforts fulfilled if it adds, and we are sure it will, to the information of readers. Suggestions to improve the book are invited.
