Udhbata the author of Kavyalamkara sara-samgraha was born and bred in Kashmir and was the Chief of the Kashmir king Jayapidas's (779-813 A.D.) court. The history of alamkaras goes into oblivion during a considerable gap in between Bharat and Bhamah. Bhāmah, Dandin and Vaman were some of the very outstanding predecessors of Udbhata who advancsd the theory of alamkara. But Udbhata contribution was no less in the field of alamkara-sastra and was duly acknowledged by scholars like Ananda vardhana, Abhinavagupta, Mahimbhata, Mammaṭṭa, and Ruyyaka. The alaṁkāras assumed elegent and outstanding an position by the scholarly contribution of Udbhata.
