Preface The musical compositions of Sri Thyagaraja, Sri. Muthusamy Dikshitar, and Sri Syama Sastrigal are a legacy for the benefit of posterity. Hailed as the trinity of Carnatic Music, great masters and vakeyakaras, their compositions as also those of their illustrious composers like Sri Swati Tirunal, Sri Pattinam Subramania lyer, Ramnad Sri Srinivasa lyengar have proved to be a veritable boon serving as an inexhaustible repertoire for the musicians and music lovers to draw upon constantly. Their contributions continue to dominate and exert a sublime and growing influence on the successive generations of musicians and lovers of music by capturing their imagination. In the present edition, five and twenty compositions of Sri Pattinam Subramania lyer have been chosen for elaborate notational exposition. With a view to facilitating the perfect rendering of the songs, appropriate notations and symbols are provided. Notations cover a time cycle, or pause, single notation or blending of notations or separating notations. It is hoped that the publication will be of interest and serve as a useful addition to the world of Carnatic Music, the practising musicians, masters, students, and lovers of music alike.
