ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Sri Padmanabha Sharma, (b. 1953) had his early education in Mulbagal, Kolar District. His father Sri Tayalur Srinivasa Rao taught him in the traditional Style Kannada & Sanskrita language. Padmanabha Sharma secured Rank in M.A., (Sanskrit) from Mysore University. He worked as Lecturer in Colleges at Shimoga, Tumkur, Malur, Chikballapur Bidar.

Presently Sir Sharma is working with a reputed educational Institution in Bangalore. He is freelance journalist also. Earlier he has worked in the Editorial Department of the Indian Express. Times of Deccan and Times of India. He is the founder - Editor of Sugunamala (1989) English monthly from Udupi. He worked with Macuillan Indian Bangalore as a copy Editor. Sri was associated with Dvaita Vedanta Institute of Advanced Studies as a Researcher.

Sri Sharma has written several books in Kannada and English. He has translated Bhagavad Gita. Soundarya Lahari (1989) Geeta Govindam from their Sanskrit originals. His translation of Tyagaraja's 250 Kritis is published.

These books have seen more than one edition. His book Nathamuni in English earlier. Srinvasa Kalyana. Seeta Kalyana by the same author has reached several thousand readers with good response.

PREFACE

Indian Culture and tradition are unique in several aspects. The importance of Guru is described in glorious terms. Guru is next only to parents. Hence the greatness of Guru happens to be a part of our ancient literature.

Sri Gurucharitram is the divine story of Bhagawan Dattatreya and his avatars. The book is dedicated to Sri Narasimha Saraswati Yati of Ganagapur near Bidar Karnataka. (1470 AD).

Originally written in Kannada verses and prose, this author had a strong inspiration to render this in English from ten years.

Though extensively written in Kannada prose & verse, Gurucharitram is also read by Telugu and Marathi speaking devotees of Sri Guru. Hence, this English version.
