Book Description

ABOUT THE BOOK
I wish that you should cany away a clear idea of the Vedanta philosophy, if not in all its details that is impassible but at least in its general purpose. It ica very bad habit to say, Oh philosophy is too deep for me or to dispose of Eastern philosophy by saying that it is esoteric or mystic Remember that all this Vedanta philosophy was never esoteric, but that it was open to all, and was elaborated by men who, in culture and general knowledge, stood far below any one of ut here present. Should we not be able to follow in their footsteps? Should the wisdom reached by the dark-skinned inhabitants of India two or three thousand years ago be too high or too deep for us? And as to their philosophy being called mystic, it really seems to me as if those who are so found of using that name, spell it perhaps, with an i and not with a'y They seem to imagine that mystic philosophy must be full of mist and clouds and vapour. True mystic philosophy, however, is as clear as a summer sky, it is full of brightness and full of warmth. Mystic meant originally no more than what required preparation and initiation, and mysteries were not dark things left dark, bat dark things made bright and clear and intelligible.
